Monumental New Soho House [Amsterdam]

Located inside Bungehuis Building on the city’s Spuistraat, Soho House in Amsterdam takes inspiration from its architectural history. Back in the 1930s, it was a trading office which was later turned into a university building. Covered with limestone, granite and featuring bronze-framed windows, this monumental edifice differs from Amsterdam’s narrow canal houses.

The hotel is Soho House’s first new opening of 2018 in Europe. 79 bedrooms were designed with an eclectic flair characteristic of the rooms at Soho Houses worldwide. Corridors exude a retro feel with art deco lighting, ceramic banisters and stained-glass windows. Fifth-floor main member space, overlooking the canal, was inspired by the Mediterranean and finished with boho blue tiling and a mix of vintage furniture. On the ground floor, visitors get a chance to relax at Cowshed spa and go on to try modern European cuisine at Cecconi’s restaurant. A cherry on top comes with a selection of artworks by young Dutch artists curated by Kate Bryan, head of collections for Soho House.
